#1 Simpson Women Advance to Final
Led by its three all-conference players, with Cal Pac player of the year Anna Marshall leading the way, #1 Simpson took care of #4 Stanton, 80-64,to advance to the women's basketball championship game. The Red Hawks (16-7) will face either #2 Cal Maritime or #3 Northern New Mexico on Monday night. Tip-off is at 8:00 p.m.
Marshall was stellar with a (30)-point (10)-rebound effort. Andrea Perez added 18 with 7 assists and Destiny Nichols had 14 to push the Red Hawks into the league final for just the second time (2023).
Stanton got out to a quick start, jumping on Simpson for an 11-1 advantage. The Elks (5-20 overall) led at the end of the first quarter, but Simpson put together a 23-point second stanza to lead 37-32 at intermission.
Midway through the third quarter, Stanton's Naj Young (21 points, 18 rebounds) picked up her 4th personal and went to the bench with 6:53 to go. Her teammates managed to keep pace with her out with Sophia Laurel (17 points) and Teagan Cohen (14) picking up the scoring.
Simpson's depth showed in the final quarter, outscoring the 7-player Stanton squad 19-9 for the final score.
