PUC defeats Walla Walla in 4 Sets
MATCH 2:
Pacific Union rallied to win the final 3 sets to defeat Walla Walla (WA) University 3-1 in Match 2 of the 2026 Cal Pac Seeding Jamboree. The Wolves, in their inaugural season with the conference, were highly competitive throughout the opening set with lead changes never exceeding 2 points, and won the set 25-23.
The second was more of the same back-and-forth but Pacific Union would pull away late to win 25-20. The Pioneers found their groove in the third on a crucial 6-point run fueled by Nate Tejada's two service aces to take the wind out of Walla Walla's sails coasting to a 25-15 third set win. The Pioneers were too much to handle in the fourth set as they made power plays and crucial defensive stands. Walla Walla would not go away quietly but Pacific Union's strong frontline and defensive backline was too much for them to overcome.
Outside hitter Joaquin Juarez led Walla Walla with 22 kills, 12 digs and one service ace collecting 23.5 points. Setter Jonathon Tobar had 30 assists and 5 digs. The Pioneer's Julian Clarke led Pacific Union with 11 kills. He also added 5 steals and an ace. JV Cruzado had 22 assists and 5 digs and Ethan Durns contributed with 17 assists, 1 kill, 5 digs and two service aces.
Walla Walla continues play in Match 4 vs Simpson at 4:30pm. Pacific Union plays tomorrow, April 16, 2026 at 9:00am against Central Christian.
