Chavez Qualifies for NAIA 1500m Final

UC Merced's Jonathan Chavez clocked a time of 3:58.35 in Wednesday's preliminary heat of the 1500-meters, the sixth-fastest time of the day, and advanced into the final race at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at Indiana Wesleyan in Marion, Ind.  The Bobcats' stellar senior runner, a three-time Male Athlete of the Year at the California Pacific Conference Track & Field Championships, will be in the field of 12 runners in the 1500 final this Friday, May 23, at 11:10 am (PT).  Chavez qualified for the Nationals with a personal-best time of 3:48.90 and holds the Cal Pac's best time in the 1500, clocking a 3:51.83 in 2023.
