Souza, Ysais Named Runners of the Month for October

The California Pacific Conference has selected Soka's Andre Souza and UC Merced's Elizette Ysais as the recipients of the October of the Month after the two runners produced top performances over the final month of the season.

Souza followed an outstanding month of September with an equally impressive October.  The senior from Boise, Ida., clocked a 24:29 at The Master's XC Invitational, finishing 11th in a field of 233 competitors, and he followed that up with a 24:59 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite, placing 2nd in a field of 83 runners.  Souza, a First Team All-Cal Pac runner last year and Second Team in 2022, has put up four of the best six runs in the Cal Pac this Fall.

Ysais was the Bobcats top scorer in both of the Bobcats meets in October and improved her times each race.  The three-time First Team All-Cal Pac runner, a senior from Hughson, Calif., took 38th (23:13.4) in the field of 230 at The Master's XC Invitational and then earned her first top-20 finish checking in 19th overall with a season-best time of 23:11.2 at the Bronco Invitational. There were 167 finishers in the Bronco Invitational.  Ysais has recorded four of the top six 6k times in the Cal Pac this season.
