LSU Moves to Top of Standings
La Sierra took three out of four games from Westcliff last weekend, moving the Golden Eagles to the top of the California Pacific Conference standings. LSU, now 5-3, moved a game in front of Simpson (3-3) and two ahead of WU (2-4) with the wins. The Golden Eagles swept the first two games on Friday behind timely hitting and solid pitching. They won the opener 5-1 as Alexis Cook and Mia Franco each had two hits for LSU, and Lidia Flores drove home two runs. LSU took the nightcap 7-2 with Renee Sena and Jillian Hernandez providing a lot of the offense with two hits apiece. WU's Madison Mendez took control of the Saturday's first game, preventing the sweep with a 2-1 win. She not only outdueled LSU's Alexandra Aguilar in the circle, Mendez delivered what proved to be the game-winning hit with a solo home run in the 2nd inning. Flores and Hailey Marquez paced the offense with two hits apiece in a 3-2 win, and Flores drove home two more runs.
