SU to Face WU in CAC Elimination Game
Simpson jumped out to an early lead only to see it vaporize in a seven-run 4th inning in a 10-5 loss to Florida National in the opening round of the Continental Athletic Conference Softball Championship in Lawrenceville, Ga. The #2 seed Red Hawks posted four runs in the 3rd only to see the #3 Conquistadors respond 10 runs over the next two frames en route to the victory. With the loss, SU faces an elimination game tomorrow, May 2, at 11:30 am (PT) against California Pacific Conference rival Westcliff. The CAC champion will represent the league in the Opening Round of the NAIA national tournament, which begins on Monday, May 12, at various regional sites around the country.
SU's Nicolena Holden and Brianna Lopez-Cortez delivered run-scoring singles in the four-run 3rd, but the Red Hawks found themselves down 10-4 before they got on the scoreboard again in the 5th when they scored an unearned run. Holden, Lopez-Cortez, and Jessica Heck each had two hits for the SU, now 24-20 on the season.
