GGC Prevails in CAC Title Game

Featuring a pitcher's battle worthy of a conference championship title game, Georgia Gwinnett's Annalise Jarvis outdueled Westcliff's Madison Mendez to lead the Grizzlies to a 5-0 win at the Continental Athletic Conference Softball Championship in Lawrenceville, Ga.  The victory advances GGC into the NAIA Softball National Championship, which begins with Opening Round games on May 12, while Westcliff's impressive postseason run comes to a close.  The Warriors finish the 2025 campaign with a 23-23 overall record.

Box Score

Mendez, an All-Cal Pac selection, matched Jarvis, the CAC Player and Pitcher of the Year, through four innings before the Grizzlies broke the game open with four unearned runs in the 5th inning.  With two outs, GGC's Morgan McQuagge walked and stole second, moved over to third on an error, and came home on a single by Sophie Sisk.  Savannah Jenkins, Makenna Talcott, and Jane Hoover followed with RBI-singles before Mendez retired the side with a ground out.

GGC was first on the scoreboard in the 4th when an infield single, a fielder's choice, and an error loaded the bases, and Mendez walked in the first run.  But Mendez deftly worked out the fix by getting an infield pop out, a strike out, and a ground out to limit the damage to just one unearned run.

But one unearned run was all Jarvis needed to slam the door on the Warriors' postseason.  The two-time NAIA All-American has had a stellar career with the Grizzlies, being named the 2023 NAIA National Pitcher of the Year, CAC Pitcher of the Year three consecutive seasons, and Player of the Year the past two seasons.  She continued that dominance against WU, going seven innings, allowing just three hits, walking none and striking out nine.  Alyssa Patlan, Anika Romo, and Iyari Ramirez all singled for the Warriors.

Mendez was impressive over the past three days, totaling 339 pitches over 22 innings.  She allowed 25 hits, 10 runs, five earned, compiling a 1.59 earned run average with eight walks and 10 strikeouts.  Mendez finished the season with an 18-14 record in the circle.
