UCM Shut Out in Kansas

UC Merced suffered its first loss the 2024 campaign, falling to Baker (Kan.) 4-0 in the Second Round of the NAIA National Championship in Baldwin City, Kan.  The Bobcats, the California Pacific Conference regular season co-champion and postseason tournament winner, trailed 1-0 lead at the half of defensive battle against the Wildcats, but the floodgates opened early in the second half as Baker netted three goals in the first 10 minutes to blow the game open and bring an end to UCM's stellar season.  UCM outshot BU 12-9 with a flurry of attacks at the goal, 10 of which came in the final 30 minutes against a packed in Wildcat defense.

Box Score

The Bobcats (12-1-3) entered the national tournament with the longest NAIA Championship appearance streak west of the Missouri with their eighth consecutive automatic bid to the national event.  UCM is one of five teams with an active streak of eight or more national tournament appearances, joining Lindsey Wilson, Missouri Valley, Rio Grande, William Carey.  Prior to Saturday's loss, UCM was one of just three unbeaten teams in the country in 2024.
