UCM To Face Campbellsville in Round of 16
It started with 40 teams playing at selected sites around the country, and now the NAIA National Championship moves to Pensacola, Fla., for the final rounds of the national tournament. UC Merced, the California Pacific Conference regular season co-champion, was awarded an at-large bid to the postseason tournament, and the Bobcats have earned the opportunity to compete for the NAIA Red Banner. UCM (11-3-2) will take on another at-large team in Campbellsville (Ky.) in the Round of 16. The Lady Tigers (18-1-1) were ranked as high as No. 6 in the NAIA this season with their only loss coming in a 1-0 decision against visiting Cumberlands (Ky.)—currently the No. 1 team in the nation—back on Oct. 11.
UCM advanced to the Round of 16 with a 1-0 victory over former Cal Pac rival Embry-Riddle last Saturday in Prescott, Ariz. CU advanced with a 2-1 win over Northwestern Ohio on its home pitch.
